The Art Of The Lie: The True Story of a Fake Film about Deception and Illusion (2025)
Overview
Brendan Allen may well be the world’s worst documentary filmmaker—deluded, self-obsessed, and wildly unscrupulous. Gifted the chance to direct a rockumentary about the launch of John Grant’s latest album, Allen blows the opportunity and is fired from the project, but refuses to accept defeat. Determined to finish the film on his own terms, he turns to increasingly desperate measures—first hiring doppelgängers to impersonate Grant before ultimately deciding to become Grant himself.
